SUBJECT ACCOUNT

Louis Pomatico was born and raised in Smithtown, New York, and now lives in Lindenhurst. He remains a proud Long Islander. This point is not under dispute.

The Makeshift Intervention is his first novel. It began in 2010 as a ten-page letter written during his addiction to alcohol and drugs—a private cry for help from someone kicking down death’s door. The letter quickly became sixty thousand words, then was revised so extensively that none of its original pages survived.

At one point, the manuscript carried the subtitle Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Rely on the Infinite Monkey Theorem. The subtitle did not survive either.

For the next sixteen years, Louis returned to the manuscript in fits—writing, cutting, rebuilding, and occasionally walking away from it altogether. In the winter of 2026, he committed himself to finishing the book, not only for himself, but for his son.

When he isn’t writing, Louis is most likely sleeping. When awake, he is usually near water, on a beach, riding a mountain bike, or driving his Jeep down an unknown road.

Louis is an advocate for plant medicine and a longtime student of altered consciousness. You can find his Micro-Do-Si-Do blotter art floating around here somewhere.

He maintains that none of this is autobiographical.

Available evidence remains inconclusive.
